This was a bit of a surprise. I was late setting off down the A3, not sure where to go, and with no bad traffic found myself near Hayling. Rather than drive for another 20 minutes plus to Pagham and not too confident of much wind anywhere, well, Hayling it was. On arrival the wind looked o.k. with a number of sailors saying that it had just picked up. Somewhat optimistically I rigged a 5.5 and spent an hour blubbing in and out wondering whether to wait, re-rig or go home. I did the first two, and immediately I was planing. Not too much power at first but it picked up and I spent a couple of hours back and forth knocking off gybes aplenty. What had been a near non-event turned out to be the most enjoyable session of the year. Not spectacular but really enjoyable. And to think I nearly went home without planing properly.

Loads of kites out and quite a lot of windsurfers including Xav Ferlet and Richard Jones doing their ridiculous upwind and downwind stuff on formula boards. It was quite bizarre to find someone coming at you at right angles. Not what you expect. They also out did me in sheer hours on the water - still sailing at 7.50 when I left the car park.
